Play Noctis

It is a great pleasure to host the original program, playable from the comforts of your browser. This is possible through a combination of js-dos and DOSBox-X, both of which are miraculously comprehensive little programs. It's amazing that this works as well as it does--the computer has come a long way.

Under the hood, the browser downloads an archive containing Noctis and starts DOSBox-X, compiled to WebAssembly, in a worker. The archive is mounted as a virtual DOS drive and NOCTIS.EXE runs inside it. A small JavaScript player copies the game’s frames onto a canvas and passes keyboard and mouse input back to the emulator.
